Driving the Future: PTTAC Calgary Hosts Its First Annual Truck Training Conference 2025

I had the pleasure to attend the PTTAC’s first annual conference in Calgary Alberta on October 7th 2025. Held at the Hyatt Place Hotel by the airport the conference was sold out and one of the most impactful conferences in the industry to date. PTTAC (Professional Truck Training Alliance of Canada) came on the scene just a couple of years ago and quickly gained speed as one of the fastest growing associations in the industry. The organization is focused on the training industry for the Canadian trucking industry and is trying to unify truck driver training, instructors, and create a National standard like Red Seal for the industry. You can learn more about PTTAC and their mission on their website at www.pttac.ca

Being based in Ontario Canada and covering many of the events here we often see the same people and hear the issues of the Province. It was good to see and meet new faces representing trainers, carriers, and associates from all Provinces across Canada. We learned that the issues are common across the Country and we are all facing the same issues and worried about the same things. Highlighted topics included at the event were road safety, training standards, and how to ensure proper training is being done in the industry. The industry as a whole is being impacted and it is hurting everyone including road users. Many trucking associations were in the room and Government officials were on hand talking about how they are helping improve road safety by shutting down bad actors in our industry such as schools, drivers, and carriers. Many in the room were attendees from Ontario Canada representing insurance, training, carriers, and more.

What was my favourite part of the conference? Other than great panels and presentations, the networking and side conversations are possibly my favourite parts. That being said hearing from Scott Thomas who lost his Son in the Humboldt crash had to be the most emotional presentation of the day and the one that hit most of us the hardest. I managed to get an interview done with Scott later in the day and was hoping I would be able to keep it together after his touching recount of the accident

The day rounded out with panel discussions, silent auction items, and networking reception. The event was sponsored by a number of companies from across Canada from all sectors of the industry. Thank you to PTTAC for having Lead Pedal Media out to cover and do video production for the event. The room was dedicated in moving forward to work together to improve an industry that has been on a downhill slide for some time. I look forward to seeing where this will go in the near future and commend PTTAC on a great event.
