The Hamilton Chapter of the Fleet Safety Council held their annual Spring Seminar event focused on culture in the workplace and how it affects the safety of your fleet. If safety isn’t respected from the top down then it will never work. The keynote speaker for the event was Steve Newton a well respected industry veteran with Challenger Motor Freight. Newton started as a driver, trainer, short stint on the insurance side, before returning to Challenger as Director of Safety. He talked about how Challenger had to make changes in order to improve safety and remain competitive in the marketplace.

The keynote was followed by a panel discussion moderated by Rob Hill of Broker Link and current Chairperson of the Hamilton Chapter which included Daniel Cohen of Salit Steel, Wendy Watson of Attridge Transportation, and Werner Unger of Canadian National Transportation. The panel discussed issues and solutions for improving safety on their fleets.

The half day event also included breakfast, presentation from Werner Unger on Special Olympics Truck Ride, and raised donations for Truck Ride through a 50/50 draw.
